What do we learn from this? Those who opt out of government services are the very ones who need them the most. In this case, the government service had to be used anyway when the house caught fire. In effect, those who paid the fee had to cover the cost of this negligence.

Next time, tax the people and cover everyone. That also goes for Social Security, Medicare, Police, etc. called government. You get an individual choice. If you like the policy, change your government.

And one other thing. I see how the fire fighters could have sat there and watched it. I would have put it out despite the fire orders.

They were dispensing a government service with a free market system. Instead of taxing people for an essential service they decided to leave it up to the owners. The idea is that people are free to choose whether or not they want to pay for fire protection. After all what right do I have to force my neighbor to pay for fire protection if he want it. How can a fire on his possibly affect me?

you can cry about the gov. all day long, but that change the simple facts… they pay, they get service, in hindsight, most people think stupid… and it has nothing to do with gov. control in any way…

The idea is this. A country sets a cap on carbon emissions. Then, individual sources get allocations to meet the cap. If an individual source can get below allocation cheaply, it can do more than required and sell the "credit" to someone who would have to spend a lot of money to get down to allocation.

The system is well proven, it was used to vastly reduce "acid rain" in the 1970s, at a reasonable cost, and it worked very well.

But the allocation for a power plant a simple number, a amount of CO2 per unit of power generated. When you conserve energy, the allocation for the power plant is reduced. true that the cap for the country stays the same. But still, made it easier and cheaper for the country to actually meet cap. The big problem with Kyoto is that many nations are not actually meeting their commitments.

Bottom line: Conservation helps the country, and the world, make the required reductions in CO2 more easily, and more cheaply. an extremely tool in reducing global warming, while maintaining a healthy economy.

These guys are asking people to buy down carbon emissions by sending money to a charity, who supposedly will buy up credits, and not use them. an and likely an expensive way to reduce carbon, due to administrative costs. I think conservation helps more, and has the bonus of actually saving YOU money.

Basically trading credits among industrial sources is a proven way to reduce pollution in a cost effective fashion. Individuals buying credits is less effective, and the potential for problems, or even scams, is huge.

let anyone tell you carbon credits are all good or all bad. Between industries good, individuals buying them is dubious.

Later in 1959, under the beguilement given by American government, dalai Lama left Lhasa. That is the truth one Chinese can tell you.

China never trampled the human rights of Tibetans. China help them improve their living standards and never interfere their religious beliefs. We built the highest railway in the world to make the traffic there convenient…..I know what should we Chinese do to satisfy those greedy presses.

living in China, and I once had an experience in my school with some Tibetan teachers from the local schools 3 or 4 years ago. They loved the government for it improved their living standards. The answer is: their way of just and democracy is only an excuse helping them malign other countries and peoples.

But I do think a better option would be to just make the families with ill-behaving children leave, instead of banning ALL children. That way you could keep the atmosphere pleasant, while still allowing those families who DO teach their children how to behave to have a nice night out.
